How do I know when and where to report for Jury Duty?
Reporting Information- Please call the jury Line at (706)-628-7705 or click on the Jury Instructions tab at the top of the home page after 5:00 P.M. on the Friday before you are to report.
How many days will I be serving on Jury Duty?
Jury service is for one week, or until the completion of the trial (if you are on a case that goes beyond one week). Most of our trials last no more than two to three days. You may hear more than one case during your jury service week. If chosen to serve on a jury, please arrive on time and return promptly after breaks and lunch. The trial cannot proceed until all jurors are present.
Is there a dress code requirement?
It is important to adhere to the Basic Rules of Court Conduct when deciding what to wear for jury duty. Click here for brochure.
If you are appearing for jury duty you should dress nicely and in a manner that shows respect for the court. Here are some things you should NOT wear:
Hats or other head coverings inside the courtroom (except those worn for religious or medical purposes)
Sunglasses
T-shirts depicting violence, sexual acts, profanity, or illegal drugs
Tube or halter tops/plunging necklines/ bare midriffs
Ripped or torn jeans • Miniskirts or shorts
Baggy pants that fall below the waist
Muscle shirts (usually worn as undergarments)
What if I have an emergency during Jury Duty?
Because your absence could delay the trial, it is important that you report each day you are required to. If a real emergency occurs- a sudden illness, accident, or death in the family- tell the assigned bailiff immediately.
What is a Grand Jury
In the state of Georgia, a Grand Jury is a group of citizens convened to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to bring criminal charges (an indictment) against a person accused of a crime. Unlike a trial (traverse) jury, which decides guilt or innocence, a grand jury only determines if a case should proceed to trial. Other duties of Grand Jurors include reviewing local government operations (e.g. county jails, and public records).
What is a Traverse Juror?
A traverse jury (also called a trial jury) is a group of individuals selected to hear the facts of a case in a court of law and render a verdict based on the evidence presented. It typically consists of six to 12 jurors, depending on the jurisdiction and the type of case (civil or criminal).
